Beautiful hand made dolls from Soweto. These dolls are made by ladies from Soweto South Africa. They meet in the morning to sew. Proceeds from the sale of these dolls go back to the ladies to be used by their local community. The ladies attach a card to each doll with their name and the name of the region the doll is from. Colours and designs vary as each doll is hand crafted. You may not always get exact replicas of dolls as per the photos but I will try to supply as close as possible.

Among the Nguni people the Sangoma is an important specialist, a diviner who claims contact with the ancestral spirits. It is believed that she reveals the will of the spirits. The Sangoma is revered as the protector of society and her opinion and judgement are highly valued.

The Ndebele are among the smallest tribes in Southern Afriuca, but are easily one of the most colourful and distinctive. The doll is in the traditional dress of a married woman. The style of the apron signifies that she has bourne a child within wedlock, and symbolises her ststus as a parent.
