Ethical Products: Felt Fairylands are Fun and Fair
It is a wonderful feeling to know that children in your care are playing with natural products. They are encouraged to use their imaginations and get back to the basics. But perhaps even more importantly for you, is the comfort in knowing the products are ethically produced. It’s not just our children who benefit but other families and communities in developing countries. I decided to share the inspiring story from Miranda, one of our lovely wholesalers, from the ethical company “Himalayan Journey”.
Himalayan Journey is a family run business with myself, Miranda, and my husband Lobsang. We created Himalayan Journey 11 years ago. With Lobsang being a Tibetan refugee we wanted to create a business that had its roots in the Himalayas, and would support local Himalayan communities in a ethical way.
After importing many Tibetan products, we found our niche to be felt! Since then we have focused on creating the most exciting felt products in Australia. And now Himalayan Journey has entered fairyland! We are so excited and in love with our fairy homes, I love designing them, being a mum of 3 young kids I have been blessed to be able to indulge my love of magic, nature and fairies. I want children to be able to use there magical imagination and explore the beautiful world of imagination through nature and magic, and our felt is such a rich learning experience for kids, they can create and make so many stories, its truly a joy to watch.
If you are looking for a product for your child that is 100% ethical and natural with no plastics or screens, you can’t go past our felt!
All of our products are hand felted and hand sewn, our felt is made from 100% wool, where it is sourced from Australia and New Zealand.
We are very fortunate to now own our very own Felt company in Kathmandu, so we have complete control over everything, from the quality, to how well our felters are looked after, and I have to say we have a wonderful working environment for our woman, many have young kids like myself and are welcomed to bring them to work with them.
We are so happy to be able to create an opportunity for under privileged women. And even more so, with the recent earthquakes, we are even more dedicated and determined to help as many people as possible through creating a safe place to work and employment, which now is very hard to come by in Nepal.
