Happy International Day of People with a Disability!
This Sunday a significant number of Australians around the country will be celebrating International Day of People with Disability.
Did you know that this year’s global theme is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all”? The main aim of this theme is to ‘leave no one behind’ and empowers people with disability to be active contributors of society.
Since 1992 when the General Assembly proclaimed 3 December as the International Day of Disabled Persons, the UN announces a theme to observe for International Day of People with Disability. The annual theme provides an overarching focus on how society can strive for inclusivity through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers for people with disability.
This global framework aims to strengthen the resilience of people with disability by providing full access to justice, health care services, infrastructure and accessible communities. It is focuses on inclusive education, lifelong learning, and sustainable economic growth through employment.
In Australia, the National Disability Strategy 2010–2020 focuses on better inclusion for people with disability and seeks to create a society that enables people with disability to fulfil their potential as equal citizens.
Today, countries all around the world celebrate the day. At Leave it to Leslie, our team is privileged to work with and know many amazing family day care staff and managers who actively contribute to the development of, and encourage independence in, children who have a disability.
We thank the parents and carers who are there for their young ones tirelessly. We notice and would like to commend all of the children (and adults) with a disability for your strength, determination and ability to inspire many.
Our part is very small, in that we constantly seek appropriate resources to meet your early educational needs. It might be little, still we hope we make a difference, as you do to many of our lives.
Happy International Day of People with a Disability.
