Large Plastic Ground Beetle

Ground beetles in the genus 'Brachinus' are commonly known as 'Bombardier Beetles' (more than 500 species altogether). Ground Beetles are known for their defensive ability to squirt a jet of hot foul-smelling liquid from their abdomens. Ground beetles in the subfamily 'Cicindelinae' are known as 'Tiger Beetles'. Although their body shapes and colouring vary, most are shiny black or metallic. They have ridged wing covers (elytra). The elytra are fused in some large flightless species.
Almost all carabids have a groove on their foreleg with a comb of hairs used to clean their antennae.
